Pratt & Whitney Supports Air Park Belleville, Ill. - A brief ceremony Thursday in front of two historic aircraft marked the presentation of a check for $10,000 to the Scott Field Heritage Air Park by aircraft engine giant, Pratt & Whitney. Air Park president Larry Strube accepted the donation from Nick Williams, general manager of Pratt & Whitney’s St. Louis region in O’Fallon, Ill. “We are thrilled to have such great support from one of the world’s foremost aviation leaders,” said Strube. “The entire Air Park project has been fueled by donations large and small. Pratt & Whitney’s generosity moves us significantly closer to our ultimate goal.” The Air Park moved from concept to initial reality this summer when the first two aircraft, a C-141 Starlifter and a C-9 Nightingale, were moved into place. Additional phase one work in the spring will include a visitor parking lot, sidewalks, lighting and display pads for three more aircraft. At the conclusion of phase one, aircraft on display will also include a C-140 Jetstar, KC-135 Stratotanker and a C-130 Hercules airlifter. Phase two of construction will include a visitor center. The Air Park is on land owned by St. Clair County adjacent to the base. Estimated total cost of the Scott Field Heritage Air Park is approximately 1.5 million dollars. “We’re working hard to make this air park a first class facility,” said Strube. “Participation by a great company like Pratt & Whitney is a real morale booster for everyone involved.” Pratt & Whitney is a business unit of industrial conglomerate United Technologies. Pratt & Whitney engines power more than 40 percent of the world’s passenger aircraft fleet and serve more than 800 customers in 160 countries. They also supply engines for a many military aircraft including the C-141 currently on display in the Air Park.
